明法オリジナル科目「21世紀」留学生交流会

 先月、明法オリジナル科目「21世紀」の授業に、新宿日本語学校の留学生6名をお招きしました。授業では、明法の生徒がグループごとに食べ物に関する問題をテーマにしたプレゼンテーションを行い、その後、留学生とテーマに関する意見交換を行いました。プレゼンテーションは英語と日本語の両方で実施したので、両者にとって、とても気づきのある交流となりました。

 また、交流会後に明法生対象に2学期の「21世紀」の授業の振り返りを行いました。以下、生徒の振り返りの抜粋(英語)です。

“...in the 21st Century Class, I learned to read and speak English. It was difficult for me, but I improved my skills. Last week's exchange with the international students was a very valuable experience. In Term 3 of the 21st Century Skills Class, I hope to be more willing to explore and face global issues. Thank you for teaching me.”

“The most difficult part of this semester was the presentation. It took a lot of ingenuity to convey information to people I had never met before in an easy-to-understand manner and to create slides. However, these were important experiences for me, and I was very happy to receive compliments on my beautiful slides. Next semester, I would like to discuss more actively to further improve my skills. By discussing more actively, I can improve my English skills and learn about the different ways of thinking of the people around me. I want to do my best in next semester's classes for my own sake as well as to broaden my perspective on society.”

“It was difficult for me to speak English fluently because I'm not used to speaking in English yet. I get nervous when talking to my friends and teachers, especially when I can't speak well. I still have to look things up when I talk about difficult issues such as international problems, but speaking is becoming more and more enjoyable! In term 3 of the 21st Century Skills Class, I want to contribute more to the team. I want to be even more active than before and not be a burden to everyone!”

“In term 2 of the 21st Century Skills Class, I learned how to write sentences in my own words and communicate them in an easy-to-understand way. We divided roles into groups and summarized the material in our own words without straying from the topic. It was very difficult to create sentences in my own words, and I struggled not only with translating them into English but also with creating them in Japanese. However, by looking at the sentences written by my fellow group members and the topics we had worked on during the second semester, I was able to think of my own words. People in my group praised me and when I did my presentation to our international guests, they nodded as if they understood, which made me feel a great sense of accomplishment and made me happy. In the second semester, I realized that thinking for oneself is an important and necessary skill. Also, it is not a bad thing to consult with others or get information from others when things are not going well. So, in the third semester, I would like to keep this in mind as I tackle new group activities. I hope this learning is helpful. And I would like to create something even better than this presentation.”
