Hello, Mr. Kamakura. How are you? I have stayed in Australia for a week. I have already had many great experiences. Some experiences are for the first time for me. At first, I was not so nervous because there were Japanese friends around me. But I was very nervous when I started home-stay. My host family are very kind. Now, I'm relieved to stay home. My host father took me to the sea to find dolphin yesterday. I rode wave machine for the first time! It was a very thrilling experience. At first, I was very fearful. But I could feel comfortable when I was used to riding it. Although we found many sea lions and sea birds, we couldn't find any dolphin. My host father also took me to National Park to see kangaroos. We were able to find many kangaroos there. I was moved to see them. They were very cute.
At school, I made some friends. They are very kind. I want to make more friends. At first, everything new, so I was very nervous. Now, I’m having so much fun. I want to enjoy the Australian life more.

Dear Mr. Kamakura,
Good afternoon. How are you? On Friday, I went to Heritage College. Actually, I was looking forward to going to the host school the day before. But, when I arrived at the school, I found myself very nervous. So I was being shy and couldn’t talk to anybody. I didn’t know what to do. Then, one female student came and told me, “Are you an exchange student? I will guide you round this college. Follow me.” I felt so relieved, talking with her. We walked around the campus together. I was able to know about the college and make some friends. So I’m looking forward to going to school again. I’ll do my best.
Yours truly, H. S.

Hi, Mr. Kamakura. First off, sorry that I didn’t contact you for over a week. That’s because it was too fun staying in Australia, I was forgetting to send an email to you! Mainly, things are going well for me. There are many things to tell you about. So let’s go to check them out.
Firstly I am enjoying school life here because I was able to make friends (of course they’re Australian students) and I am having a fun time with them.
Secondly, my host family is very kind to me. I eat curry with chicken and other food which l can’t eat in Japan. Of course they taste good. It’s a very precious experience for me, too.
Here in Melbourne, it’s very hot outside during the day and I often get thirsty. So it’s much harder staying outside. Water is precious in Australia, so it costs $4 or maybe more to buy a bottle of water. How crazy! As I said water is expensive in Australia, I always bring a water bottle to school.
Next, I’m going to tell you about precious experiences. I was surprised and shocked because my English was so useless even if I passed the exams of Eiken. So I’m now trying hard to adapt to unexpected situations. But it’s not too hard for me because students in Australia are kind and they sometimes switch their language into Japanese.
Please allow me to finish writing because I’m curious to learn about how to cook fried rice now.
Thanks.

Dear Mr. K.
Good evening. How's everything?
It has been 11days since I came here. There were a lot of things during my stay here. First of all, I have visited many places for sightseeing. I went to Melbourne Zoo, a temple, a swimming pool and Melbourne Wheel. In Melbourne zoo, I saw koalas and so on. At the temple, I learned about a war in the past. At Melbourne Wheel, I saw the view of Melbourne city. It was too beautiful. The first day when I went to my host family, I talked with them and I went to Edinburgh College to go through the reception. After that, we ate dinner. The host family were too kind.
The first day when I went to school, I was not talked to by anyone. On the second day, I still didn't get used to the school. However, I talked with a boy, Max. He is very kind. So I now get used to the school a little. We will go on hiking together. I'm looking forward to going on hiking.
Yours truly, R.N.

Hello. I think I’m going to tell you about my recent news.
I go to Edinburgh College now. In Australia, there is no distinction between primary school, junior high school, and senior high school. There are 12 grades in this school. I was surprised about it. I’m in the grade 9. I think English is difficult, but the contents are very easy, especially math. In math class, I calculated average. I thought Australian class was noisier than Japanese class, but Australian class is funnier than Japanese class. I made a buddy in my class. My buddy’s name is Max. He is kind and talks to me many times. I’m going to go a lot of places with him soon.
My host family is Hosking family. My host father is Peter, host mother is Ann, and host brothers are James and Paul. They like Japan very much. I heard that they went to Tokyo Disney Land in January. Peter takes me somewhere every day. I went horse riding last week. I rode a horse for the first time. I’m going to ride a small airplane and go to the beach next week. I’m looking forward to them.
I’m going to send you another report next week.
Y.M.

Dear Mr. Kamakura,
How are you? My host family are 4 people, host parents and 2 host sisters. They are very kind and active. They always look busy. Especially my host mother looks very busy. Today I helped her with the housework.
They came from Sri Lanka. So they are always eating spicy food. Taste is good but it is a little hot for me. 6 days ago, I broke towel hanger. I've already apologized. My host family didn't get angry. But I think I have to pay for my host family to fix it. I will use my insurance. I think insurance is one of the most important things when we go abroad.
At school, I got new friends whose names are Xander and Lachlan. Xander is a very funny boy. He always makes us happy. And Lachlan is very kind. He taught me and other Japanese students about this school.
Here is a good place. I can enjoy the nature and people are very kind and friendly. I am enjoying school life here. But I miss Japan just a little.
I want to be a good English speaker. So will do my best in everything.
Thank you.
From R.Y.

Hi, Mr. Kamakura. How are you? Australia is very hot every day! I like summer, so I feel very very good. During the first week, I stay space hotel with my school people. We went to many places, for example Victoria library, Melbourne Zoo, a big shopping center, outlet mall, Ferris Wheel, and night market. I have enjoyed many things. I drank coconut juice at night market, but this taste was really bad. Also, I fell that Tim Tam is the worst taste for me. This is Australian chocolate. This tastes like a bug-repellent spray.

On the first Thursday, I met my host family. I was nervous. However my host family was very kind to me. I can only answer their questions in short sentences, but I would like to talk a lot more in English.

On February 2, I went to a department store with my host mother. I bought a pair of shoes that I use in my school and enjoyed window shopping. After that, we went to a super market. She bought me a breakfast. Then we came home and we watched a funny movie! I had a good day!!

February 4 was my first school day. I went to my host school with my host mother. At this school, all the students take classes using a PC, so I was surprised. I felt that using a PC in the classes is convenient for me. We do not use notebooks in most classes, so if you forget to bring your PC with you, you can't take the lesson.

I feel that it is hard for me to take all classes in English. I can't understand many things. I think that I should have improved my English more, so I would like to work harder for the remaining two months.
Y.M.

Hi, Mr. Kamakura!
I'm going to report about my study-abroad experiences. I had a hard time in the first two weeks. Thank you for helping me. Now I enjoy my life here.
During the first week, we visited a lot of places such as Liberty Shopping Mall, some historic buildings and a game center. I was able to learn a lot of things. I want to visit these places once more.
In school life, I am used to living in Australia. But I have not made many friends yet, so I want to make many friends. On Tuesday, I joined Heritage College swimming competition. But I'm bad at swimming, so I was the worst. But I enjoyed it! Moreover my team won some races! It made me a little happy. I will have more fun for the remaining eight weeks.

Good evening, Mr. Kamakura.
I’ll talk about the events I’ve had in the last two weeks.
On the 1st day, I went to a zoo with Meiho friends. We can saw a lot of animals. Kangaroo is particularly impressive of all.
On the 2nd day, I went shopping. I answered some questions asked by a clerk there. It was very difficult.
On the 3rd day, I went to a swimming pool. It had a big pool, a small pool and a huge water slider. The pool was very deep.
On the 4th day, I met my host family for the first time. I was so nervous at first. The host family's house is enormous!! It was hard to memorize the host family members’ names.
On the 5th day, I went to my host school by bus for the first time. It took me about 45 minutes to get to the school. On this day, there was a school festival on campus. I enjoyed it a lot.
On the 6th day, I went to church for the first time. In the church, people sang some songs and prayed to the God. After praying, we ate lunch. It was delicious.
On the 8th day, l had swimming carnival. l swam backstroke, freestyle, breast stroke and relay. I got the 3rd, 2nd and 2nd place. Last event for me was a relay. We won the race, which made me very happy!
K.H.

Hi, Mr. Kamakura. How are you? I am fine.

I have spent two weeks at school. It is difficult to understand what is going on in classes except for maths and English. Actually, English is difficult, too. The English teacher tells us that we can understand the contents. Math is okay for me because it is too easy. On the other hand, I cannot understand science and the Bible. I probably cannot understand the subject even in Japanese.

I went to Melbourne city last weekend. Chinese festival was held when we were there. We watched dances and also enjoyed some Chinese songs. They were good. After that, we watched fireworks for ten minutes. I seldom watch fireworks, so I thought they were beautiful.
We also went to a park that has a large lake. There were many people that were having BBQ. I walked around the lake with my host family. I like to take a walk, so I felt so good, walking around the lake.
